Those of you who are regular visitors to our libraries will have noticed that we got brand new CPU units earlier this year (and thank you Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation!). Now, in the next couple of weeks, new network printers and new 17" LCD flat panel monitors will be arriving in the branches thanks to the Library Services and Techonology Act (LSTA) which is administered by the Mississippi Library Commission. New software will also be installed. Two programs that we know will be installed are the new Microsoft Office Standard 2007 (again, we thank Bill and Melinda). This is the Vista version of Office and is a complete re write of the program. Unfortunately, it will not read old Office version documents without a conversion process. A Resume Writer program will be installed also (again, thanks B&M).
And for those of you in Quitman who have been sharing our struggles to get the Discover Station software to work, we have removed this from the computers and are now back to good ol' XP. So if you gave up on us, come on back, things are working properly now (or as properly as an overworked computer person can make them!).
We're not sure in what order we'll be delivering all this to the branches, but we know it will all be done by the end of the month. Enjoy!!
